Sixteen years ago today I became a mom 🙂 Edward Douglas Mahoney made his way into the world and our lives have never been the same. Today Eddie is in Baltimore, competing in an academic challenge. I still remember the first time I left him somewhere where I didn’t know everybody (that would be pre-school) and now he is 40 miles away in a city — how did that happen?
I could take the time to list all the stories I would love to share, but I know they would embarrass Eddie (I will say to family members, remember this?… “I so pretty!”) But I would like to share something Eddie did on Sunday…
We spent the day in Antietam, where they were celebrating the 150th anniversary of the battle. I again asked Eddie what he would like for his birthday. He’s been vague because what he really wants is a new computer and knows we are not going to buy him one. He turns to me and says “I would really like another t-shirt quilt”. Now over the years I have made him 3 t-shirt quilts (using shirts he outgrew and the fabric from similar pajamas) and here he is, 16 years old, and he asked me for another one.
Sweet, right? Except that it was less than one week until his birthday! And I’m working now (albeit part-time). But how can I not do a quilt for my terrific son; who puts aside his desire for a new computer, loves his new car ( a 2000 Toyota Corolla), and asks his old mom for another quilt?
So, here it is, completed a day early (due to lack of sleep and a seriously tenacious woman). 🙂
HAPPY BIRTHDAY EDDIE!!!!
I hope we all live to see your kids become parents. They’ll be wonderful! ❤ ❤ ❤
